I was diagnosed with type 1.5 diabetes last year. My vitamin d level was 19 when diagnosed. I focused more on sugar control and neglected my vitamin D. So, a year out, and my vitamin D is only at 21. I had thought my memory issues and cognitive decline were due to the sugar. But I got my A1C under control pretty quickly. Went from 15 to 6.2. I can vouch. Had a level of 45nml/l and was bedridden with fatigue, extreme memory problems and a hole bunch of other symptoms. My friends thought Iwas going into dementia, only 40 years old and I even had a memory test for dementia done at the doctors but it was vitamin D.
